Love That Dog

by Sharon Creech

I felt as thought this book was very easy to read if you flipped where you were supposed to flip.  I would have never known this had I not been told.  I would have probably figured it out at the end of the book but I enjoyed this book.  I really liked the concrete poetry My Yellow Dog and The Apple.  I think kids would love doing these poems.  I’m sure it wouldn’t be as easy as they’d think but I know that they would love trying.  I felt sorrow for the boy at the end of the book.  I love my dog, Bailey, even if she does get on my nerves sometimes.  I would be very upset if anything ever happened to her.

This is Just to Say

by Joyce Sidman

I am so thrilled to see students creating a published book.  I really liked This is Just to Say.  I felt that the student did an excellent job giving his own twist to the original story written by William Carlos Williams.  If this story is true then it is hilarious because most kids would be scared to even step into the teacher’s lounge.  I love how this book portrays poetry in a totally different way.  The stories are made up of appologies and responses to those appologies.  This is a brilliant way to incorporate poetry into the classroom.  I would love to try this.  It may be difficult for fourth graders but I think it could be worth it.
